You only need one Flu Shot. Again this year, the H1N1 strain, as well as the two other flu strains, is included in one vaccine. The exception to this one shot rule is children younger than nine who have not been vaccinated for influenza in the past will need two doses of the flu vaccine.
Vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older.
Both the IDPH and the CDC recommend everyone six months and older receive the flu vaccine. People at high risk of serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease, and people 65 years and older should make getting vaccinated a priority.
Both Flu and Pneumonia vaccines are covered by Medicare Part B and Medicaid. The cost for flu vaccine is $30.00. Cost of Pneumonia Vaccine is $48.00.
You must bring your Medicare or Medicaid card with you to the vaccination clinic. The Health Department cannot bill private health insurance companies, but will provide a receipt for individuals to receive reimbursement. Children who are not covered by any insurance may qualify for the VFC program and receive the flu vaccine at a discounted cost. The health department accepts cash or a check made out to MCPHD.
