Hypertension (Blood Pressure) Screenings

Blood Pressure Screenings are provided throughout Macoupin County by health care professionals. Please contact your local hospital for more information.  Blood pressure screenings are provided in conjunction with special screening events held by the Health Department including the monthly cholesterol screening on the fourth Thursday of each month and the annual Health Expo. Watch your local newspaper for specific dates, times and locations.  During other regular Public Health Office hours, blood pressure screenings may be provided by the Public Health nurse by appointment only. Please call 217-854-3223 to arrange an appointment.

 

Cholesterol Screenings, A1C, PSA

Cholesterol Screening will be performed on the fourth Thursday,   from 9:30 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 2:30, at our office, 805 N. Broad in Carlinville, unless it's a holiday. Charges are $20.00 for the test being done. More accurate results will be obtained if the individual is fasting. A1C (glycosolated hemoglobin) screening will be performed on the fourth Thursday, from 9:30 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 2:30. This screening is for individuals who are diabetic. It gives a measurement of blood sugar control over a several week period. This cost is $20.00. PSA charges are $20.00

Pregnancy Testing

The Macoupin County Public Health Department offers pregnancy testing to residents of the county. Before bringing in a specimen for testing, please call the Carlinville office at (217) 854-3223 or the Gillespie office at (217) 839-2350 for instructions and to make an appointment to the have pregnancy test done.  The charge for a pregnancy test will be $10.00.

Hemoccult Testing

The Macoupin County Public Health Department is offering free hemoccult testing to county residents. The hemoccult test is a rapid, convenient and virtually odorless method of detecting the presence of fecal occult (hidden) blood as an aid to diagnosis of various gastrointestinal conditions. The specimens are collected by the individual in the privacy of his or her own home and returned to the Health Department. Each person will be notified of the results as will the private physician. The test may be obtained at the Macoupin County Public Health Department, 805 N. Broad, Carlinville or you may call the office Monday through Friday at (217) 854-3223.
