Diabetes Nutrition Counseling

with a registered dietitian call 217-854-3223, ext. 221 to make an appointment

 

Cholesterol and glucose screenings

as well as HbA1c testing.

 

Diabetes Support Group

meets 1st Tuesday of every month

2 p.m. at Public Health Office, 805 N. Broad, Carlinville

Referrals

to physicians, endocrinologists, optometrists, opthamologist, & podiatrists

 for annual physicals and dilated eye exams as well as to

a pharmacy assistance program for help with medications.

Symptoms of Pre-Diabetes?

 

Some possible symptoms are an unusual thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, and unexplained fatigue.

Who should be tested for Pre-Diabetes?

 

If you are age 45 or older and are overweight, it is wise to be tested for pre-diabetes during your next routine visit with your doctor.  If you are over age 45 and your weight is normal, ask your doctor during your next routine visit if testing is necessary.


Risk factors for pre diabetes include:

Family history of diabetes

bullet

High blood pressure

bullet

Low HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol)

bullet

High triglycerides

bullet

History of diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes) or giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds

bullet

Belonging to an ethnic group at high risk for diabetes - African-American, Latino, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander
